In a major development to strengthen India’s railway infrastructure, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the construction of the third and fourth railway lines between Ratlam and Nagda in Madhya Pradesh. The announcement was made by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who stated that the project will significantly reduce congestion, improve freight and passenger train efficiency, and offer long-term environmental benefits.
41.4 km Long Project to Enhance Connectivity
With an estimated cost of ₹1,018 crore, the proposed project will cover a stretch of 41.4 kilometers. Upon completion, it will reduce the line capacity utilization from 116% to just 65%, easing the current railway traffic pressure.
The project will connect key Railway junctions such as:
- Nagda (North)
- Vadodara (South)
- Indore (East)
- Chittorgarh (West)
This strategic positioning will strengthen both regional and national railway connectivity, especially along critical freight corridors

- 38 crore kg of CO₂ emissions in the first year (equivalent to planting 1.5 crore trees)
- Up to 16.5 crore tree equivalents in carbon savings by the 11th year
- 7.5 crore liters of diesel
These figures highlight the significant ecological impact and fuel savings from the project.
Some New Trains Announced for Madhya Pradesh
Alongside this railway project, the Union Minister also announced the launch of three new train services for Madhya Pradesh:
- Rewa–Pune Express via Jabalpur and Satna
- Jabalpur–Raipur via Nainpur, Balaghat, and Gondia
- Gwalior–Bengaluru via Guna and Bhopal
Operations of these new trains are expected to begin within the next two months, further expanding the state’s rail network.
