Ganesh Chaturthi 2025: Indian Railways to Run 262 Special Trains for Festival Rush

With Ganesh Chaturthi 2025 just around the corner, Indian Railways has announced a massive initiative to ensure smooth and comfortable travel for devotees heading to the Konkan region. The festival, which begins on August 27, 2025, typically witnesses a surge in passengers traveling from major cities to coastal towns to celebrate the occasion with their families.

To manage the seasonal rush, Central Railway and Western Railway will operate a total of 262 special trains. This includes 192 trains by Central Railway and 70 trains by Western Railway, covering high-demand destinations along the Konkan coast.

Central Railway’s 192 Special Trains

Central Railway will run 192 Ganpati Special trains connecting major hubs like Dadar, Panvel, Thane, Pune, and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) to key destinations in the Konkan region. These destinations include:

  • Sawantwadi Road
  • Kudal
  • Ratnagiri
  • Pernem

Below is the list of special Train Services includes:

  • 40 trains between LTT – Sawantwadi Road
  • 24 trains between Panvel – Kudal
  • 20 trains between Panvel – Sawantwadi Road
  • 36 trains between LTT – Kudal
  • 24 trains between LTT – Ratnagiri
  • 18 trains between Dadar – Ratnagiri
  • 8 trains between Thane – Kudal / Sawantwadi Road
  • 8 trains between LTT – Pernem
  • 6 trains between Pune – Sawantwadi Road

According to a press release by Central Railway, “These services have been planned keeping in mind the seasonal rush towards the Konkan region and will be operated with additional halts based on demand.”

Bookings for these trains are already open and can be done through the IRCTC website or at all computerized railway reservation centres.

Western Railway Joins the Effort with 70 Special Trains

Western Railway is contributing 70 special services, mainly connecting Mumbai and Valsad to coastal Konkan and Goa destinations:

  • 26 trains between Bandra Terminus – Madgaon
  • 22 trains between Valsad – Sawantwadi Road
  • 22 trains between Valsad – Kudal

These trains are expected to ease the load on regular services during the festival period and offer discounted fares, making travel more affordable.

Important Guidelines for Passengers By Indian Railways

Railway officials have urged passengers to plan ahead and avoid last-minute bookings. Given the surge in traffic during Ganesh Chaturthi, travellers are also advised to:

  • Use official platforms such as the IRCTC website and National Train Enquiry System (NTES) app to check train schedules, halts, and seat availability.
  • Cooperate with railway staff during boarding and deboarding, especially at busy stations.
  • Arrive at stations well in advance to avoid crowd-related delays.

Officials have also highlighted that the special trains will have dynamic halts, which may be adjusted based on local demand and traffic forecasts.
