Indian Railways to Launch Vande Bharat 4.0 Train in 18 Months

In another major stride toward modernising India’s rail infrastructure, Indian Railways is set to launch the next-generation Vande Bharat 4.0 Express within the next 18 months. The announcement was made by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who confirmed that this upgraded model aims to redefine comfort, speed, and safety setting new global benchmarks for train travel.

Vande Bharat 4.0: The Next Evolution of India’s Flagship Train

Since its debut in 2019, the Vande Bharat Express has become a symbol of India’s engineering excellence and self-reliance in modern rail technology. After the successful rollout of Vande Bharat 2.0 and 3.0, which already meet international standards, the upcoming Vande Bharat 4.0 promises to deliver a world-class passenger experience.

According to Minister Vaishnaw, the current Vande Bharat 3.0 trains can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in just 52 seconds, a performance metric comparable to some of the fastest trains globally. The upcoming 4.0 version is expected to push these limits even further.

Enhanced Features in Vande Bharat 4.0

The Vande Bharat 4.0 train will focus on passenger comfort, design precision, and overall quality upgrades. The major highlights include:

  • Improved toilet systems for better hygiene and functionality.
  • Upgraded seats offering enhanced ergonomics and comfort for long-distance travel.
  • Superior workmanship and finishing of coach interiors.
  • Refined noise reduction and vibration control for a smoother, quieter journey.
  • Enhanced onboard systems for energy efficiency and passenger convenience.

These advancements aim to make Vande Bharat 4.0 not just a domestic success but also a model that can be showcased globally.

A Global Standard in the Making

Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasised that the mission behind Vande Bharat 4.0 is to establish India as a leader in train manufacturing. The new version will feature design innovations and advanced technology developed indigenously, in line with the government’s “Make in India” initiative.

The minister also highlighted that the Vande Bharat Express has been instrumental in revolutionising intercity travel with reduced journey times, modern interiors, and increased safety features such as Kavach, the indigenous train collision avoidance system.
